The Cal Poly chapter of the PRSSA was established in 2002. As of fall, 2009, we have 55 members from Journalism, Communication Studies, English, and other majors. Our chapter is NOT restricted to journalism students! We are here to help you become a knowledgeable and qualified public relations practitioner, regardless of your major or what (specifically) you want to do in PR. Our chapter meets at least once a month. We have guest experts and interesting discussion. We work on fun service projects, too.
Past meeting topics have included: - Cover letter, resume, and portfolio help - Individual one-on-one resume critique - Meet the PR Giants teleseminars - How to get that first job in PR - Graduate school: Is it a good option for you? - How to build a "smashing" PR portfolio.
We also do tours of local PR firms and media agencies, so you can meet working professionals one-on-one.
For more information, visit our web page or contact any of the officers.
The PRSSA bulletin board is across from the department office in Building 26. PRSSA mailboxes for members can be found outside room 26-207.

Central Coast PRspectives is the on-campus, student-managed public relations firm founded by students in California Polytechnic State University’s Department of Journalism. CCPR is based around a course, JOUR 415 (required for PR emphasis students). The firm works in cooperation with the PRSSA but you do NOT need to be a Journalism major to be involved with CCPR or PRSSA!
Central Coast PRspectives provides students with the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on public relations experience in a supportive educational environment. At the same time, the firm serves the university and the surrounding community by providing high-quality public relations services to businesses and non-profit clients. In 2008-09, CCPR provided more than 1,300 hours of pro bono PR services to organizations in our area.
