The Jackson State University Chapter of PRSSA was officially founded October 16, 2007 by Dominique Moore. Dominique saw there was a need for advancement in opportunities for Jackson State''s Public Relations students; opportunities that provided guidance, industry insight, hands on experience and the ability to develop strong networks. The JSU chapter became active in fall 2009 with 14 members. The founding chapter members were Dominique Moore, President, Renee McEntee, Vice President, Jessica Simien, Secretary, Emil Cole, Parliamentarian, Ciera Tabb, Assistant Secretary, Tiffany Tickles, Business Manager, LaShawda Banks, Miss PRSSA, Tabatha Robinson and Ja‘Nea Lewis, SGA Representatives. The faculty advisers are Riva Brown Teague and Dr. Judy Meredith. The professional adviser is JSU alumna Olivia Thomas, CEO of Quicksilver Creative in Jackson. The JSU Chapter has done a few community service activities, volunteering at Fresh Start Christian Church, Going Green Fashion Show and National Earth Day.
On May 5, 2010, PRSSA granted JSU its national charter, making JSU the 310th PRSSA chapter nationwide and the 14th HBCU that has a PRSSA Chapter. On September 2, 2010 an election for new officers was held making them the first officers since the chapter became an official charter. Those current officers are Lauren Lawrence, President, Mia Boyd, Vice President, Brooke Mosely, Secretary, Renee McEntee, Public Relations Director and Jamilah Vaughn, Historian. Students here at Jackson State University now have the opportunity to work with organizations outside of their local college home.
