Speaker
Saturday, October 7
1:30–2:30 p.m.

Mary Klemenok is a senior at Louisiana State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mass communication with a concentration in public relations and a minor in business administration. As a lifelong athlete, Mary has always understood the importance of maintaining a good image in the public eye, which is the main reason behind her transition from journalism into public relations.Mary’s leadership qualities, strategic knowledge of social media, years worth of writing experience and computer skills have set her apart from competition when applying for internships. During her first year of college, she interned at KOMU TV, an NBC affiliate and the only university-owned commercial television station in the United States. As an intern, Mary edited and wrote news stories published on the news channel’s website. She also reported breaking news events and human-interest stories. Throughout her undergraduate career, Mary has maintained membership in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) on campus, which has allowed her to gain
insight from leading professionals in public relations and the surrounding area. Mary is also a member of Changing Health and Attitudes to Recreate Girls and designed a social media
plan stylebook for both the national and campus chapter to implement into their marketing.
Beginning in August, Mary will be a part of the rebranding process for SportsBR, previously known as the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation. As an intern, her duties will include updating the organization’s blog, managing social media posts, implementing new marketing tactics and managing large sporting events hosted by SportsBR. Aside from being a student, Mary trains fulltime at her local Crossfit affiliate. She also enjoys writing on her blog where she shares homemade recipes, travel experiences and inspirational posts. She also plans to write and publish her own memoir after graduating, which will allow readers to get a closer look into her life and how she overcame many obstacles starting at a young age.
