Cedric Bess Visits Florida International University Chapter

March 2, 2011

Speaks to School of Journalism and Mass Communication Students

Bess spoke about the importance of getting involved in public relations and finding local internships as a freshman in college. He gave examples of how his professional connections have helped his career and how they are beneficial to a student’s professional development.

Bess shared tips he learned during his professional career and how he dealt with experiences in crisis communications. He explained the importance of time management, making time for personal pleasure, and provided resources students could use to find local jobs and internships.

Bess ended the informational meeting with a question and answer session, trivia and prizes.  He reminded students that they should “always have a plan” and to “never settle for less” but at the same time “don’t take yourself too seriously” because you have got to live a little.

Cedric Bess has been in professional public relations for 13 years and began his career interning with the Junior Orange Bowl. Cedric was a former national liaison of Florida International University’s Chapter of PRSSA and was the first African American National President for PRSSA. He has worked in many aspects of public relations and has served as the Public Relations Manager at the corporate headquarters of the Public Relations Society of America in New York. He currently works as a Guest Relations Ambassador for the New York Yankees and as a Product Specialist for Mercedes Benz.
