New Jersey Public Relations Pro Honored With Mentoring Award

June 1, 2011

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Seton Hall University’s Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America selected Josh Balber, Senior Director of Public Affairs at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) as the 2011 recipient of its coveted ROPE in Success Award. The annual award acknowledges one tri-state area employee who has shared exceptional mentoring and support with Seton Hall University public relations students, interns and graduates.

Balber has over a decade of communication experience in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area with outreach results appearing in national, regional and local print, broadcast and online media. Balber joined the Public Affairs team at NJPAC in 2005 where he is responsible for the media coverage of the Center’s more than 200 performances and institutional press. Balber is also the chair of the marketing committee on the Board of Trustees of Partnership in Philanthropy, a New Jersey non-profit organization that helps other New Jersey non-profits with board development and capacity building.

“I am continually impressed with the professionalism, energy and initiative of each of our Seton Hall PRSSA interns, and grateful for the chance to impart whatever ‘real world’ knowledge I can to the future stars in the public relations field,” Balber said. “I’m honored to receive this recognition for mentoring a great group of students who bring so much to NJPAC and our small PR team.”

Past honorees include Joan Bosisio of Stern + Associates (2010), Michael W. Kempner of the MWW Group (2009), Kathleen Waugh of Toys R Us (2008) and Tom Coyne of Coyne PR (2007). The Award was given to Balber at Seton Hall’s ROPE in Success Event on April 7.

“The ROPE in Success Event celebrates the academic and career achievements of students and graduates of Seton Hall’s public relations program and its PRSSA chapter,” Dr. Kathleen Rennie, APR, senior faculty associate and Seton Hall PRSSA Faculty Adviser said. “It is an opportunity for alumni and current students to reconnect with friends, network, and recognize some of the best students and biggest supporters of the program.”
