Central Washington University Chapter of PRSSA Hosts CEO of Frause Integrated Communications

February 15, 2012

Ellensburg, Washington – The CWU Chapter of PRSSA had the opportunity to host Bob Frause, APR, Fellow PRSA, CEO of Frause Integrated Communications, on January 30. Frause talked with students about internships, landing a job and his experiences in the public relations field.

One of the ways Frause gives back to the public relations industry is by helping new graduates transition from PRSSA to PRSA. In 2004, Frause established the Frause Education Fund, which pays the first year of PRSA dues for new graduates of any Washington state college who were also members of PRSSA.

After a meeting with the CWU’s Communications Department faculty, Frause spent a few hours speaking with communications students about his experiences, what to expect after graduation and advice for up and coming professionals. Shortly following, Frause attended a coffee session with the CWU PRSSA board members followed by the CWU PRSSA weekly meeting.

While he was at CWU, Frause spent his time engaging with students by speaking conversationally rather than with a presentation. The hottest topic of interest among the students was how to land a job upon graduation. Students most commonly asked questions about what type of experience employers like to see, how to construct a strong resume, and how to network.

“He gave us honest and straightforward answers without any sugarcoating,” said Kayti Castalano, Vice President for Chapter Development. “It was nice to have a CEO tell me exactly what he is and is not looking for in a potential employee.”

While visiting CWU, Frause attended a meeting held by the student-run firm, Central Communication, where he learned about the clients the students had, what projects they’re working on and offered suggestions.

“It was a substantial opportunity to have Mr. Frause offer suggestions, critique and recognize the work we are doing for our clients,” said Anthony Felts, Account Executive for the Sygnifi Networks account. “He also offered some valuable suggestions which we will be implementing into our proposal this quarter.”

The CWU PRSSA Chapter is working on creating a speaker series for spring quarter where students will have the opportunity to network with professionals from various sectors of public relations. They are also planning on visiting Seattle for agency tours.
