Rowan University PRSSA Hosts Second Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis

December 18, 2013

GLASSBORO, N.J. (Nov. 8, 2013) – The Rowan University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) hosted its second annual Dance-A-Thon on Nov. 8.
The event, which was held in conjunction with the Rowan Intramural Recreational Sports Association and Delta Phi Epislon, drew an estimated 200 people and raised more than $1,200 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through a variety of dancing activities, food and raffle baskets.
“The Rowan community really pulled together to support a great cause,” said Devon Thilker, Rowan PRSSA’s director of philanthropy. “It’s an honor and a privilege to work with such driven students to hold such a wonderful event.”
In addition to raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Rowan PRSSA hopes to raise awareness and educate people about the disease. The genetic disease affects the lungs, pancreas, liver and intestines.
Rowan PRSSA strives each year to participate in philanthropic causes that have personally impacted the Chapter. In addition to Organ Donor Day, they added Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis to its annual calendar to honor the memory of the late Colette Bleistine, former Rowan PRSSA vice president of special events.
“We couldn’t have done this without the help of our sponsors,” said Thilker. “Thanks go out to local businesses that donated food and baskets to raffle.”
