UF PRSSA election reflects new membership-focused leadership structure
May 13, 2015
GAINESVILLE, FLA. (April 13, 2014) — The University of Florida Chapter of PRSSA filled its executive board for the coming year on April 8 in an election marked by extensive changes to the board’s structure and responsibilities.
Beginning with the 2015–2016 school year, UF PRSSA will no longer have appointed directors supporting the elected officers. Seven positions were cut as part of the restructuring.
“Our board has been a bit excessive in recent years, leading to a lack of responsibilities for our other members to tackle,” President-elect Josh Ferrari said. “We want our members to understand they can make an impact without a title.”
UF PRSSA’s committee system was also consolidated as part of the initiative — creating four large committees to absorb the responsibilities of the eliminated positions.
Task forces, led by general members and supervised by the committee chairs, will be created within each committee to focus on specific objectives and new initiatives. Moving forward, the committees will have a far more essential and active role in UF PRSSA.
“These changes will create further opportunities for students to rise as leaders in a more organic manner,” outgoing President Chad Furst said. “When we empower our members to take further ownership of the organization, they will get much more out of it.”
