UNO PRSSA Raises $1,200 for a No-Kill Animal Shelter
January 30, 2017
OMAHA, Neb. (Jan. 31, 2017) — The University of Nebraska at Omaha Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (UNO PRSSA) collected $1,200 and several boxes of pet supplies for its 10th annual “Santa Paws” fundraiser supporting Hearts United for Animals.
Pet lovers and their four-legged furry friends flocked to The Bookworm in Loveland Centre on Dec. 4 to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
UNO PRSSA photographers and elves took photos of pet owners’ dog(s) on Santa’s lap, printed the photo on-site and turned it into a holiday card for a $25 fee, or two photos for $35. Photos also were emailed to pet owners.
The event also included a donation drive for Hearts United for Animals. Among the most needed items were Gerber baby meat sticks, hard chew toys (no rawhide or Greenies), soft treats, blankets, towels, adjustable collars, leashes, laundry soap, bleach, paper towels and trash bags. The public also brought donations directly to The Bookworm. Students planned the event and will donate the needed items to local animal shelters or rescue groups.
All proceeds went directly to Hearts United for Animals (HUA), a national no-kill shelter sanctuary and animal welfare organization. The nonprofit group’s major focus is to end overpopulation of domestic animals and the suffering of puppy mill dogs. Hearts United receives no government funding and exists solely on donations and the all-volunteer staff.
