Rowan PRSSA Concert Raises Over $1000 for Haiti

February 28, 2010

GLASSBORO, N.J. — The Anthony J. Fulginiti PRSSA Chapter at Rowan University raised more than $1300 at a benefit concert for Haiti this past Tuesday, Feb. 23.

The Chapter partnered with Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization established to provide aid to countries with citizens threatened by violence, neglect or catastrophe, to create an event students and the Glassboro community would remember.

The concert featured artists such as Person L, a side project of Kenny Vasoli, former lead singer and guitarist for the popular pop punk band The Starting Line, Ace Enders, Jeff Kummer and Dan Wythoff.

“The performers didn’t ask for money,” said Rebecca Cicione, a PRSSA general member who took charge of coordinating the event. “They just donated their time. They wanted to help the cause.”

Donations ranged from $5 to $20. Approximately 150 people attended, some coming from as far as two hours away.

“When the disaster struck, Rowan PRSSA members knew we wanted to do something. We started brainstorming and Rebecca approached us with the concert idea. It was perfect!” said Rowan Chapter President Kimberly Ciesla. “The executive board is really proud of Rebecca, and we hope her actions will encourage other members to bring up their great ideas.”
