Penn State PRSSA Declares April as Philanthropy Month

April 6, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (April 6, 2010) — Get ready to give back to the community because the Lawrence G. Foster Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) declared April “Philanthropy Month.” During the month, the Chapter will volunteer at the Red Cross, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and Spring UP at Penn State University.

“Volunteering helps PR students stand out when in a competitive job market,” said Chapter Vice President Jessi Janiec. “It makes it that much more important to dedicate an entire month to philanthropy.”

Penn State PRSSA members will begin their month by encouraging students to sign up for the Red Cross Blood Drive on April 5 and April 6. On April 12, members will volunteer at the Blood Drive by checking in donors, escorting guests at the Blood Drive and donating blood.

Furthermore, Penn State PRSSA members will dedicate 24 hours to the annual Relay for Life on April 9 and 10. Students will camp out and walk through the night to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society to benefit the many families affected by cancer.

Last, the Chapter will round out the month by participating in Spring UP. On April 17, students and community members will clean up the Penn State University Park (UP) campus before the annual Blue and White Weekend on April 23.
