PRSSA Announces 2013-2014 National Committee

April 15, 2013

NEW YORK — The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) announced the election of its 2013-2014 National Committee during its annual National Assembly in Albuquerque, N.M. More than 160 attendees from around the country attended the event from April 4-7, where they learned about the Society, Chapter development, leadership and ethics through sessions, networking and special panels.

The 2013-2014 National Committee, who take office for one year beginning June 1, 2013, is as follows:

The position of Publications Editor in Chief will be filled in late April.

PRSSA 2012–2013 National President Lauren Gray will serve on the 2013–2014 National Committee as Immediate Past President. The 2013–2014 Committee also includes National Faculty Adviser Bob ‘Pritch’ Pritchard, APR, Fellow PRSA, of the University of Oklahoma, and National Professional Adviser Don Egle, APR, ABC, of James Madison University.

“I’m excited about the National Committee for 2013-2014,” said Price. “This year's Assembly was very inspiring and you can count on our National Committee to be out there, available and ready to help everyone become successful in their Chapter.”

Price, the current Vice President of Chapter Development, received the Elaine Averick Outstanding National Committee Member Award in honor of the Society’s previous Director of Education, who had served PRSSA for 20 years.

“It was an honor to serve with Brian this year. He worked extremely hard this year and went above and beyond his position to assist other Committee positions with their initiatives and goals,” said Gray, who selected the award recipient.

This year’s National Assembly also voted on two amendments to the National Bylaws to revise two National Committee position titles. The Vice President of Internships/Job Services will now be the Vice President of Career Services, as “it is an all-around position which handles not only the PRSSA Internship Center, but necessary tools to help launch member’s careers,” said Hilary Jurinak, current Vice President of Internship/Job Services.

The position of FORUM Editor in Chief will now be the Publications Editor in Chief, as “this position handles not only the publication of the national newspaper, FORUM, but also the publication of the PRSSA National blog, Progressions, and the publication of the Society’s Annual Report,” said Lauren Rosenbaum, current Vice President of Public Relations.

Tom Garrity, president and CEO of The Garrity Group, presented the keynote session during Sunday’s farewell reception. He shared firsthand tips for a successful career in public relations that corresponded with quotes from iconic movies.

In addition to the elections and professional development sessions, attendees participated in the Day-of Competition, a challenge requiring teams to construct a creative public relations campaign and presentation for client Duck® brand Printed EZ Start® Packaging Tape within just one hour.

Also, representatives from the PRSSA 2013 Conference Committee presented information about the October event, to be held in Philadelphia, to encourage attendees to share with their Chapters. Additional information about the Conference is available at www.prssa.org/conference.

“This year's National Assembly was another example of the passion and creativity of our PRSSA students. Each PRSSA Chapter should be extremely proud of the delegation and the leadership decisions that were made,” said Egle.

PRSSA thanks sponsor Duck® brand Printed EZ Start® Packaging Tape for their support and contributions to the event.
