PRSSA Students Host CreateAthon Event to Benefit Local Nonprofits

March 1, 2017

New York (March 1, 2017) — Forty Capstone Agency associates from the University of Alabama will launch a 24-hour pro bono marathon, know as CreateAthon, to complete marketing services for seven local nonprofits on March 3. The nonprofits who will benefit from this event span various industries and include the Alabama SPCA, Alabama Writers’ Conclave, Arts ‘n Autism, Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, and First Presbyterian Church among others.

To host a CreateAthon event, Nationally Affiliated Student-run Firms must apply and be selected by a panel of judges. Once chosen, six students commit to a three-month planning process culminating in the 24-hour pro bono marathon event. By donating a piece of their weekend, these students strengthen community relationships and provide meaningful services to impactful nonprofits who could not afford the services.

This event will be the pilot for the new PRSSA – CreateAthon relationship and will be followed by Cardinal Communications’ CreateAthon event happening later in March at Ball State University. Follow their success through the PRSSA National social media accounts — Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat.

Special breaks are planned into Alabama’s CreateAthon’s 24-hour agenda to keep the student associates alert and energized. One such break is sponsored by client, Alabama SPCA who will bring puppies in during dinner time for students to play with. Zoe’s Kitchen, Insomnia Cookies and Moe’s Southwest are sponsoring all the food for the event. The event will conclude on Saturday, Mar. 4 with a formal pitch to each of the nonprofits’ executive teams and include the strategic designs to see the creative tactics come to fruition. PRSSA hopes to expand this opportunity to more firms in 2018.

CreateAthon was founded in 1998 by Riggs Partners, a marketing consultancy in Columbia, South Carolina. It has grown from a single-market event to a 501(c)(3) organization that has attracted more than 100 marketing and communications firms, universities, corporations and professional clubs as official CreateAthon partners. Cumulatively, CreateAthon has helped more than 1,500 nonprofit organizations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom by delivering pro bono marketing projects valued at more than $24 million.
