November 13, 2018

For Immediate Release

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Nov. 13 2018) — Students from the Executive Board of the Beth Wood Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at Indiana University travelled across the country last month. Faculty Adviser Dave Groobert travelled with board member Melissa Dvojacki to Publicis Media’s Multicultural Talent Pipeline from Oct. 10–12 in Atlanta.

With students from over 20 universities, the event focused on the value of diversity in shaping media. There were workshops, panels and a keynote speech from Solange Claudio, a multi-agency chief operating officer. Just days prior, Groobert travelled to Austin, Texas for the PRSSA 2018 National Conference with Chapter president, vice president and secretary Sydney Heile, Bryn Eudy and Brittney Mwonyato.

The Conference was a five-day event entailing professional development sessions, Chapter workshops, adviser sessions and much more. As a recap of the event, the executive board members’ most enjoyed “The Art of PR Meets Neuroscience and Big Data” and “Coding for Communication.” Most notably, members enjoyed the “Living Legends” panel, as it focused on implementation of three important components of any successful career — relationships, curiosity and passion.

Reflecting on the two events, Chapter President Sydney Heile shared, “These conferences are a great chance for us to practice what we preach and take learning outside the classroom seriously. We networked with CCOs, corporate communications managers and practitioners from every industry imaginable. IU PRSSA always prioritizes connecting to our national community but this year we took it to a new level.”
