Rowan PRSSA Hosts Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Competition

November 13, 2018

GLASSBORO, N.J. (Nov. 13, 2018) — As PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) Chapters continue to volunteer in philanthropic activities that promote the well-being of our communities, the Anthony J. Fulginiti Chapter of PRSSA (AJF-PRSSA) invites you to continue in this tradition and pillar of service. Help in saving as many lives as possible by participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Competition (CFAC).

Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes lung infections and limits the ability to breathe. In 1989, the disease was discovered to be the combination of two recessive genes where both parents of an individual with cystic fibrosis must be carriers of the disease for it to develop. Today, approximately 30,000 people are affected by this disease.

At the age of 1, Colette Wendy Bleistine was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Colette grew up battling the disease and in spite of her struggle, she lived like none other. She brightened the lives of all who encountered her, as she spent much of her time selflessly giving to others. After being placed on the double lung transplant waiting list in March of 2012, Colette lost her battle to cystic fibrosis on May 21, 2012.

As a former student at Rowan University, Colette served as vice president of special events for AJF-PRSSA. Annually, the Chapter hosts a “Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis” event in honor of Colette with the hope of continuing her legacy and making a difference in the lives of those battling the disease.

This competition allows PRSSA members to enhance their public relations skills while making a difference in their respective communities. Participating Chapters must create a campaign and host an event in November focused on bringing awareness to cystic fibrosis while fundraising for the cause. The top four Chapters will receive a cash prize at the PRSSA National Conference in the fall of the following school year.

By competing in CFAC, together we can make a difference by educating others and increasing research to save lives. Imagine the impact your Chapter can have! For more information, rules and guidelines to compete in CFAC, visit www.rowanprssa.org/cfac.html.
